A little planning before you arrive can make your stay even easier.
You can arrive by road.
Casa Verapaz is directly accessible by road in Santa Catarina Palopó. Detailed directions and arrival instructions are sent to registered guests before check-in.
You can cook.
Every residence has a full kitchen, refrigerator and freezer, plus a private gas BBQ. We provide coffee, sugar, olive oil and salt.
Bring some cash.
There is currently no ATM in Santa Catarina Palopó. Withdraw quetzales in Panajachel or another larger community before arriving.
The jacuzzi takes a little planning.
The shared jacuzzi is heated on request and takes approximately two hours to reach temperature, so ask ahead when you would like to use it.
Lake days are often better earlier.
Lake Atitlán is often calmer earlier in the day and can become choppier in the afternoon.
Casa Verapaz is part of a living village.
Santa Catarina is wonderfully relaxed, but you may occasionally hear church bells, religious services or music, dogs, boats, fireworks and community celebrations.
We are built into a hillside.
Current residences involve outdoor paths and stairs. Review the access information for your residence before booking. Argos is planned to offer step-free arrival once the new entrance is complete.
Dogs are welcome.
Casa Verapaz is dog-friendly for an additional fee. Dogs should remain leashed in shared gardens.
Laundry is available.
Laundry service is available for an additional fee. The laundry area is separate from the residences; there is no washer or dryer inside individual apartments.
You do not have to plan everything. Ask us for current recommendations—or swim, soak in the jacuzzi, walk into Santa Catarina, rent a kayak next door and decide tomorrow what tomorrow looks like.
